1933 Watchtower

The acts of Satan’s earthly representatives in identifying themselves must first take place before the final slaughter at Armageddon, and the opportunity is being furnished to them to so identify them- selves; and this they are doing after hearing the testimony given by Jehovah’s witnesses.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  January 1, 1933 p. 7

This morning‘s Year Book lesson recalled page 150 of Preservation and its clear statement that “It may therefore be expected that every part of Satan’s wicked organization will continue to march on to Armageddon with the full determination to completely destroy God’s remnant and to stop all witness work to Jehovah’s name upon the earth. There is no alternative left for the remnant. They must take the course which God has pointed out for them, knowing that their continuous unselfish devotion to the Most High will insure his preservation and deliverance of them. ’’

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  February 1, 1933 p. 46

All who do not honor the name of Jehovah will suffer at Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  February 15, 1933 p.56

It is not correct to say that Armageddon has begun and that the worst part is yet future.  There is a wide distinction between the trouble that is upon the world and the battle of Armageddon, which is the battle of the great day of God Almighty.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 68

Armageddon

Has the battle of Armageddon begun?  Scripturally the answer is, No.  When we understand the meaning of Armageddon we can easily see that the battle has not begun.  The highest part of a mountain the Scriptures designate as a hill. A mountain symbolically represents Jehovah’s organization.  The word Mageddon means a place for the assembly of troops, while the prefix Ar or Har, used to form the word Armageddon means the high mountain or hill where the troops of Jehovah are assembled or gathered together.  These troops assembled at Armageddon are Jehovah’s troops, including the remnant on earth.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 71

The battle is often called by the name of the place where it is fought, and hence the battle is said to be that of Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 71

Over against him is Gag, the chief field marshal of Satan the Devil, and who leads in the conspiracy against Jehovah ‘s anointed, and who also leads the enemy forces at the great battle of Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 72

Satan sends forth his forces under Gog against the assembled troops of Jehovah at Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 72

Satan began the tribulation in 1914, and Jehovah stopped the wholesale slaughter in 1918 and thus shortened the days of tribulation for his own purposes. The tribulation was begun by Satan and carried on in unrighteousness; but soon Jehovah will take an active part therein, by the hand of Christ Jesus, and will “cut it short in righteousness”.  That part begun by Jehovah will be the battle of the great day of God Almighty and which is sometimes called “the battle of Armageddon”.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 73

8.  Distinguish between the trouble now upon the world and that of the battle of Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 74

22, 23 Explain whether the opposing armies are assembled at Armageddon and whether that battle has begun Just what is meant by the expression “the battle of Armageddon”?

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 74

Show that the battle of Armageddon will be the act of Jehovah and a work of righteousness. What does Jehovah, by his prophet Jeremiah (25 :33-36), say of the desolation which shall then be wrought?

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  March 1, 1933 p. 74

This part here pictured shows that Jehovah determines the time when the final battle of the day of God Almighty, the battle of Armageddon, is to be fought and when it shall end.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  April 1, 1933 p. 102

As the witnesses of Jehovah they make known to the rulers and to the people that at
Armageddon the rod or power of Christ, turned into that which is like a serpent, and used to inflict evil or just punishment upon Satan’s organization, will demonstrate to all that Jehovah is the Almighty God over the whole earth.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  April 1, 1933 p. 104

Anti-typically, the two “rods” are now proclaiming against each other; and when Jehovah takes an active part in the execution of his judgment at Armageddon, his power or rod of evil wielded by his “right hand”, Christ Jesus, the great executor, completely swallow up all evil and wickedness that Satan and his serpent agents are putting upon the people.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  April 1, 1933 p. 104, 105

It is our desire to continue in this work until Armageddon, which must be very near.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  April 15, 1933 p. 127

This declaration of vengeance must be made between the time of the coming of the Lord to his temple and Armageddon.  There would be no occasion to so declare his vengeance after Armageddon is fought.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  April 15, 1933 p. 134

Satan is gathering all the nations to Armageddon to make a final war against God and against his anointed.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  May 1, 1933 p. 137

The temple company constitute Jehovah’s witnesses on earth and to these has been committed the testimony of Jesus Christ, and they are sent forth to make known the message of the kingdom before Armageddon. (Rev. 12:17)

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  May 15, 1933 p. 154

The time has come for Jehovah to make known his name in the earth, and he will make this known through his Word and through the manifestation of his power at the battle of Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  June 1, 1933 p. 174

This prophecy is also an assurance that the kingdom under Christ will stand for ever. (Dan. 7 : 22,27,28) The concluding part of the vision of this picture shows the complete victory for Jehovah and his kingdom at Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  June 1, 1933 p. 185

In this day of Jehovah, when the great Prince has taken his power and reigns, and in which time all the nations are lining up under the command of the Devil for Armageddon, how foolish it is to apply this prophecy to the papacy alone.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  July 1, 1933 p. 197

Satan at that time and since, seeing that his time is short for the preparation for the great battle of Armageddon, continues to influence the nations of the world to prepare for another great war while he, through Gog, his chief officer invisible, and his devoted sons the clergy, launches a wicked persecution against those who faithfully represent the Most High God on earth.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  July 15, 1933 p. 221

Jehovah declares his purpose to vindicate his holy name at Armageddon; hence it is designated in his Word “the battle of that great day of God Almighty”.  The organization of Jehovah symbolized by Mount Zion is the place of the assembly of his troops; hence that place is called “Armageddon”.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 1, 1933 p. 227

The fact that Jehovah foretold by his prophet concerning the coming of the battle of Armageddon and that he would prepare for it is proof that the battle will be fought; and the further fact that he has now opened these prophecies to the understanding of his anointed is evidence that the time of the battle is near; hence the prophecy is of profound interest to the anointed.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 1, 1933 p. 228

And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”-Rev. 16:13, 14, 16 ; see Light, Book Two, page 42

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 1, 1933 p. 229

That work being completed, then Christ Jesus suddenly or straightway comes to the temple: “He shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.’’ From that time forward to the time of the battle of Armageddon is designated in the Scriptures “the day of his preparation”.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 1, 1933 p. 229

3.  What is meant by “Armageddon”?

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 1, 1933 p. 233

1, 2.  What are the evidences that the battle of Armageddon is near?

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 1, 1933 p. 233

All who come over the “highway”, as above mentioned, must be informed before Armageddon, and this work Jehovah has committed to his anointed remnant, giving them the privilege to carry the “fruits” of his kingdom and bear them to others that they might know that he is the Almighty God.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 15, 1933 p. 244

The gathering of the remnant to Zion, God’s organization, is not for rest and idleness, but to be prepared for the work and to do the work of bearing testimony of Jehovah, and continuing this up to the time of Armageddon.  God’s anointed people, therefore, must be completely separate and distinct from Satan’s organization. The gathering of the remnant of Zion began after Satan’s organization was cast out of heaven, and after that the cry speaks of Babylon as being still in existence, showing that the cry, in fulfilment of the prophecy, must go forth at the present time and before the battle of Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  August 15, 1933 p. 245

All of these shall fall at Armageddon, and Jehovah’s forces are moving into position for the attack. (Jer. 25 : 15,16)

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  September 1, 1933 p. 263

“Heldai,” the remnant, being in the world and having a transient existence here, is no part of the world but endures through Armageddon, and hence is long-lived.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  September 1, 1933 p. 264

After the “king of Babylon” (which is Satan) and “that nation” (the invisible part of Satan’s organization) and “that nation” (the invisible part of Satan’s organization) had been cast out of heaven with great fury Jehovah’s zeal for Zion moved him to make preparation for the final punishment of the wicked organization, which punishment he will inflict at Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  September 15, 1933 p. 278

Many prophecies show that many people will discern God’s organization before Armageddon and will acknowledge that Jehovah is not at all responsible for the woes and wickedness now in the earth and that the kingdom of Jehovah is the world’s true remedy.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  September 15, 1933 p. 279

To save them he first brings forth his King, ousts Satan and his organization from heaven, stops the World War for the sake of his elect, and then sends forth his obedient ones prepared and equipped as his witnesses to represent him in further preparation for Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  September 15, 1933 p. 280

The faithful remnant render themselves in full obedience to Jehovah’s commandment and his organization instructions, and he is pleased to use them in the temple service and to continue to prepare them for Armageddon, which is just ahead.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  September 15, 1933 p. 283

Christ the great warrior will whip the nations at Armageddon and thus compel them to be peaceable.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 1, 1933 p. 292

Many scriptures strongly indicate that at least some of the faithful remnant will be on earth and see Armageddon while in the flesh.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 1, 1933 p. 294

Says the prophet: ‘The house of Judah the Lord hath made as his goodly horse in the battle’; and on this he rides to Armageddon. (Ps. 68:32, 33)

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 1, 1933 p. 296

At Armageddon Christ and his army will harass, press upon and drive before him the enemy under the leadership of Gog, and all the host of Satan’s crowd, and will completely break those who have hitherto been oppressors.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 1, 1933 p. 297

The fire of Armageddon shall devour the whole system, including Satan, the chief “cedar”, and the war-axe of Jehovah’s great Chopper is now ‘laid at the root of the forest’.-Matt. 3:10

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 15, 1933 p. 308

Those who are on the Lord’s side know now by Jehovah’s Word that he will settle the everlasting-covenant breakers at Armageddon, and that this will not be by conflict between the nations, but by the battle of the great day of God Almighty.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 15, 1933 p. 311

Now that the “man of sin”, ” the son of perdition,” foreshadowed by Judas, has been revealed, will he do a like service for the “sheep merchants” before the time of Armageddon?  If so, this would show that company so doing as worthy of death.-Ex. 21:16

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  October 15, 1933 p. 311

The apostles of Jesus suffered the very things that the Lord described in the tenth chapter of Matthew, but it is very evident that in so doing they fulfilled the prophecy only in a partial manner and that the greater fulfillment must come upon those who faithfully follow Jesus and who give the final testimony before Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  November 1, 1933 p. 327

Rather does it show that those who receive their wages with gladness and appreciation are the ones to whom, from that time on, the Lord assigns the work of finishing the testimony and doing the work from then till and at the battle of Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  November 15, 1933 p. 342

God’s will concerning the work to bc done just preceding Armageddon is expressed by the psalmist in these words: “This honor have all the saints.”-Ps. 149:9

Jehovah will have a clean and faithful sanctuary class to bear the fruits of his kingdom in this hour of great stress upon the people and at the time just proceeding Armageddon.

The Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.  December 1, 1933 p. 361

This conflict causes one division of the human race to identify themselves as against God, and others to prove their integrity toward God and to take their respective places before Armageddon.

When I told him that none of the present kingdoms were Christ’s kingdom, but were organized by Satan, he said: “Well, I must admit that everybody is trying selfishly to profit as best he can, even at the expense of his fellow men.” And when I went on to say that all the present kingdoms, therefore, shortly will go to pieces in Armageddon, he frankly admitted that “it most certainly looks like it”.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  p. 111

We believe that much is left to be done ere Armageddon approaches, and are determined to do our part in announcing the approaching destruction and the blessing of the kingdom to follow.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  p. 138

The Devil began the time of trouble and has carried it on in wickedness, but at Armageddon Jehovah will finish that trouble in righteousness by destroying the wicked organization.-Deut. 32:41; Rom. 9:28; Isa. 28:21.

The millions that are brought through the time of trouble at Armageddon will be the first to have the opportunity of wholly devoting themselves to the Lord and entering upon the “highway”, and after this those that are now dead will come forth from the grave and be taught how to enter upon the “highway”.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  January 25

God’s remnant being the first upon the “highway”, and serving as examples to the people, will aid the people in turning to the “highway” after Armageddon. W 10/15/31

The greatest shame upon these, however, will come at Armageddon, when God’s great sword desolates the nations. V II, 259

1933 Year Book.  1932.  February 12

Seeing that the battle of Armageddon completes the victory of Jehovah, and the preservation of those who love him, will cause the people of God to more fully appreciate him than ever. The non-followers of Christ, the heathen, have been repeatedly told the truth but have given no heed to it. Armageddon will cause all of them to know that Jehovah is the Most High. VII, 337

1933 Year Book.  1932.  February 27

He who made Mount Sinai tremble and quake at the giving of the law through Moses is the same God who fights the battle for his people and brings to them victory, and is the same God who comes to his temple, selects and brings his remnant into the secret place of the Most High, and the same God who will destroy the enemy and his organization at Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  March 1

It would be expected that God would show the watchman what is his own organization and his purposes in his organization, and would also disclose to the watchman the enemy organization; furthermore, that God would reveal to the watchman the great issue that must now be settled, and why the battle of Armageddon will be fought.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  March 6

All creation will have reason to know at Armageddon that the Almighty God is manifesting his power against the enemy.

Jehu was executing Jehovah’s decree, and the Greater-than-Jehu, Christ Jesus, will execute Jehovah’s decree at Armageddon furiously. V III, 30, 52

1933 Year Book.  1932.  March 25

Certainly Gog represents wicked forces which are anti-God and anti-kingdom in assaulting and moving against God’s kingdom organization, including the remnant on earth, and which forces reach a climax at Armageddon. VII, 316, 317

1933 Year Book.  1932.  April 23

Those of the remnant who remain on earth during Armageddon will see the complete humiliation of Satan and the men of the earth who are the rulers under Satan’s direction.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  May 13

After Armageddon there will be some faithful people of God yet on the earth. These will have something to do with the cleaning-up work.

The acts of Satan’s earthly representatives in identifying themselves must first take place before the final slaughter at Armageddon, and the opportunity is being furnished to them to so identify themselves.

The peoples of the nations that survive Armageddon will quickly learn of Jehovah; for his fame shall spread through all the earth. V II, 344

Jehovah’s “strange act” mentioned by the prophet Isaiah will be remarkable and wonderful to behold. That strange act will take place at Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  June 8

The coming of the Lord Jesus to the battle of Armageddon, therefore, will be in clouds, and every eye shall gaze with terror on what they shall behold. W 5/15/32

At that time the spoil shall be divided, thereby increasing the kingdom interests on earth for a space of time after Armageddon is fought.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  June 10

The remnant is likened unto a home-keeping woman of ancient times, in that such do not engage in an active part of Armageddon with carnal weapons.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  June 10

The prosperity of God’s faithful people must therefore begin before the heathen nations are dashed to pieces at Armageddon, in order that these nations may know that the hand of Jehovah God is doing these things. Since the World War God has caused his King at his temple to revive his work and his people as to the interests of his kingdom.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  June 16

When Armageddon has completely wrecked Satan’s wicked organization, the common people will know that the hand of Jehovah God has done this mighty work; and then the “high messengers” will come out of Egypt, which people will then be seeking the way to Zion.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  June 19

All those who have made a covenant with God and who remain in captivity until Armageddon will suffer much tribulation.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  July 9

The worst rebuke to them, however, will be administered at Armageddon, when their rebuke will be lasting.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  July 12

The prophecy shows Christ Jesus, Jehovah’s great executive officer, taking captive Satan and his cohorts at the battle of Armageddon. Those taken prisoners at Armageddon will not be preserved as such, alive in a prison house, but will be put to death and thus held captive in death until the end of the thousand-year reign of Christ. Doubtless Satan’s cohorts, and Satan himself before death at Armageddon, will come to a full realization that they are “all done up” and that the fight must put an end to the operations of Satan and his organization, who for centuries has been unhindered in his defiance of Jehovah God.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  August 21

Jehovah God has now come to his holy place, his sanctuary or temple on Zion, and he will reveal himself out therefrom in terrifying acts at the battle of Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 8

Moses was terrified at what his eyes beheld at Sinai. It will be even so with the remnant of Mount Zion at Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 8

Jehovah is now marching the mighty host of his organization to Armageddon, where his name will be vindicated.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 17

As Jehovah is now marching his forces to Armageddon, and the remnant is the only part of his organization on the earth wholly devoted to him, it follows that the remnant must be at the front, lifting high the standard of the Lord that others of good will may find the way to salvation.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 17

This course they must take if they would receive the protection of the antitypical Jehu, Christ Jesus, who will execute Jehovah’s judgments at Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 21

This shows that the great battle of Armageddon precedes the inauguration of the new covenant; therefore Jehovah marches to war with his “thousands upon thousands” of chariots of war.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 28

Armageddon, which is near at hand, will mark the end of Satan’s organization; then the blindness will be removed from the eyes of the people and all will have an opportunity to gain a knowledge of God.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  September 29

Later the people of God, when more severely persecuted, may well say that ‘God himself is for us; unto him belongs the escape in view of death’, and that escape Jehovah-foretold by the destruction of Haman; and the escape of his people will come with the destruction of the class pictured by Haman, and particularly will this escape be made available at Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  October 20

Armageddon will be required to cause the people to know that Jehovah is God and that his kingdom is their only hope. The complete downfall of Satan’s organization at Armageddon and the scattering of the people throughout the nations will awaken them to the real solution of the world’s troubles.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  October 25

The last members of the Christ body on earth are the remnant, and are undoubtedly represented here by “thy foot”; and this seems to be another indication that the faithful remnant, or at least some of them, will be on earth during the great battle of Armageddon and witness the blood that shall flow by reason of Christ Jesus’ executing the enemy. The remnant, seeing the vengeance of God manifested upon the enemy, will have further reason to rejoice and praise his name. At Armageddon great will be the actual flow of blood.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  November 5

Jehovah will be present at Armageddon, particularly represented by Christ Jesus, his Chief Executive Officer.  Necessarily Armageddon must and will be such an open demonstration of Jehovah’s power that all creation may see and know that it is Jehovah God that is performing this wonderful and strange act.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  December 1

He survived Jehu, which seems to say that the Elisha work of giving testimony will continue after Armageddon.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  December 7

Even after Armageddon some of the remnant may be used for further fulfilment of this prophecy.

1933 Year Book.  1932.  December 8

Jehovah rides upon all, because he is the Most High and because the Head of Christ is God. The voice of warning he sounds just preceding the great battle of Armageddon. Jehovah now uses his instruments whom he has anointed, and into whose mouths he has put his words, to speak or publish his words, and to that degree they utter Jehovah’s voice or message. W 5/15/32

1933 Year Book.  1932.  December 10

This rejoicing shall follow the battle of Armageddon. V II, 248-251

1933 Year Book.  1932.  December 18

The Jehonadab class are meek, that is, teachable, and they seek to do right and are anxious for the kingdom to be established, and it is this class that Jehovah’s Word shows he will take through Armageddon. It is the Jehonadab class that are marked in their foreheads, and these are to be spared. It is a great comfort to Jehovah’s witnesses to now know that they are permitted to carry the waters of life to a class of people that may be taken through Armageddon and given everlasting life on the earth by reason of the bounteous goodness of Jehovah, even as the name Jehonadab suggests. V III, 82-84

1933 Year Book.  1932.  December 19

Likely in the midst of Armageddon God will make it very manifest that he is for his remnant upon whom his name is placed and who are his witnesses.

1932 Home and Happiness

All the facts and the Scriptures prove that the great battle of Armageddon will be fought in the near future and will result in completely ridding the earth of Satan’s wicked rule, and then quickly will fallow the great reconstruction work. A knowledge of these facts brings joy to those who have a desire to see righteousness on the earth and peace amongst the people.

Home and Happiness.  1932.  p. 7

With wickedness cleared out by the great battle of .Armageddon, lasting peace will then be upon the people, because God has given his Word that Christ shall run and that his government shall for ever give peace to man.

Home and Happiness.  1932.  p. 13

The great battle of Armageddon which is just ahead will clear the ground to make way for the erection of the beautiful and glorious structure to the good of man and to the honor of God.

Home and Happiness.  1932.  p. 24

The Lord has promised that these wild “beasts” shall be destroyed at Armageddon, meaning that all wicked and oppressive rule shall go down.

Home and Happiness.  1932.  p. 32, 33

His King is already upon the throne; but first the Lord God will destroy Satan’s fraudulent and deceptive rule in the great battle of Armageddon, which is in the very near future.

Home and Happiness.  1932.  p. 47, 48

Among these mysteries are, Who is God, and what does his name signify?  Is God responsible for all the sorrows and woes of the world?  Has he an organization, and what is it? What is the organization that opposes him? What is Armageddon? Many of these mysteries are cleared up by an understanding of Revelation and Ezekiel, and God’s due time has come to make these known to those who take their stand on the side of the Lord.  The two books entitled Light, dealing with Revelation, and three books entitled Vindication, dealign with Ezekiel, show how God has brought to pass the facts fulfilling these prophecies.
